You check in at the hotel, take the elevator upstairs, set aside your suitcase and flop down on your hotel bed. You’re tired after your flight. You don’t feel like going anywhere, you just want to relax. Take a hot bath? Maybe. Get a massage? Well, there’s that getting-to-the-spa thing.

But what if the spa treatment visits you?

A Calgary-based in-room wellness and spa service is branching into more and more hotels. Treatments are popular with travelers and corporate clients who want to maximize their spa time and minimize scheduling and running around.

Read on to learn about how and where to get in-room spa treatments, and you can check out other Alberta spa holiday packages as well.

Enjoy Convenience and Privacy

“It’s convenient, private and comfortable,” says Elisabeth Fayt, who after travelling for 10 years as private assistant to Canadian billionaire Ron Joyce, saw the demand for the in-room spa experience. Joyce preferred that the spa come to him, and Fayt envisioned other travelers seeking the same service.

Fayt is now a popular motivational speaker after building the RnR Wellness downtown Calgary riverfront spa. She plans to take the in-room service model with its complete spa menu worldwide, including the U.S.

In Calgary, Fayt’s in-room service is available in 20 locations, including Fairmont and Starwood properties, the Marriot and Delta chains, Hotel Arts and the Riverside Inn. It also covers the Glenmore Inn and Carriage House Inn. The service will expand to Alberta’s other major city, Edmonton, as well.

How to Travel Well

“I spent ten years travelling on the road so I know what being on a plane for hours can do to your back,” says Fayt. “You want to be in top form for the next day. You’ve got a few hours before bed and you’re exhausted. This is something easy and quick that can prepare you for the next day.”

“You are getting a deluxe spa service with the scents, sounds and ambiance created in the comfort of your guest room,” she adds. Even hotels that have an in-house spa offer Fayt’s service, which took years to develop so that response times are right.

Calling ahead is always an option, too. “I started with one hotel and now we are set up so that if you call at 5 p.m. in the downtown core of hotels, we will be there,” says Fayt. “All of our in-room services are ‘hot towel services’.”

Top In-Room Therapies

Here is an in-room spa menu that includes the numbers to call for the services.

A new treatment that’s already popular is the RnR Classic Massage. “The RnR Classic Massage is by no means basic,” says Fayt. “It is a deluxe in-room spa service that includes body brushing, hot towels, aromatherapy, facial mist and a finishing lip balm.”

The Urban Refresher treatment starts with body brushing and includes a refreshing aromatherapy foam wash with full body mist and moisturizing massage.

Spa Experiences with Spouse

If you’re traveling on holiday, you may want to forgo the convenience of an in-room spa treatment and instead go for a half or all-day experience. You can do that, too, by visiting RnR Wellness downtown at the Calgary riverfront. The spa is right at Prince’s Island Park, the city’s core green space where many festivals are held, and it’s within walking distance to downtown shopping, restaurants and galleries.

There are inspirational quotes all along the wall of the spa, as well as an inspiration library, in keeping with Fayt’s personal philosophy on wellness. You can also get guided meditations there, among other services.

The Opus and More

Fayt attributes the success of her spa and in-room service to something she teaches others as she travels the globe, which she calls the ‘pre-paving’ technique. She is a featured teacher in The Opus movie, which is a companion piece to the phenomenon The Secret. Her latest movie, The VOW (Voices of Women), is set for release in spring, 2009. She explains ‘pre-paving’ in her book, Paving It Forward.

“I pre-pave my day and I find the universe will give me the energy that I need,” she says. “How well you are in the mind is what creates your reality, so we need to take care of the mind, and you can do that with wellness. You can get off the treadmill of life.”

Examining the Law of Attraction

Fayt says her experiences when travelling the world and working alongside global business leaders taught her how to think big.  These experiences, combined with 14 years of study with the Masters of India on the Law of Attraction, gave her a foundation for the teachings she shares in Paving it Forward

“People spend more time choosing what they are going to wear in the morning than they do choosing how they will connect with people, how they will feel or what they will accomplish,” she says in the book.  “Pre-paving is consciously choosing how you want to look, live and feel through every part of your day and every part of your life.”

Maybe you can start by attracting a spa to your hotel room.
